About Blind Cat Rescue
Founded by Alana Miller and her daughter Stephanie, Blind Cat Rescue is a lifetime cat care sanctuary for blind, FIV, & FELV+ cats located in St. Pauls, North Carolina (USA).
In 2005, Blind Cat Rescue constructed their first building as a safe place for blind cats who were deemed not adoptable by regular shelters and were going to be euthanized simply because they were blind. In 2011, they built a second shelter to provide a safe place for Leukemia positive (FELV+) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV+) cats who otherwise would have been killed because they tested positive for those viruses.
The costs of maintaining the cat care sanctuary runs approximately $1,200 per day to provide quality food and medical care for the approximately 100 cats and typically spend $100K for medical care each year.
Back in early 2000, Blind Cat Rescue needed a place to house the cats to accommodate the growing number of displaced cats. The majority of cats came from high-kill shelters or rescuers that saved them from unnecessary euthanizations. The goal was to create a lifetime care sanctuary—Blind Cat Rescue does not adopt. All of their cats have been rejected by other shelters at least once and many have had multiple placements. These lifetime sanctuaries prevent future abandonment and the cats finally have a forever home.
