Direct Selling

Tap into eBay’s marketplace of over 183 million active buyers and acquire new donors by setting up your charity for direct selling.

1. Set Up Direct Sellers

You will need to assign a Direct Seller that will be authorized to sell on behalf of your charity. This can be someone from your charity or supporters. You can have more than one Direct Seller.

  • To add a Direct Seller, you will need their eBay User ID.
  • If they don’t have their own unique login, they will need to create one on eBay here.
  • To view the setup process for assigning a Direct Seller, go here.
  • Meet and learn from other charitable Direct Sellers by joining our Community Group, Connected for Good.

2. Instill Trust with Buyers

When you set up a Direct Seller on behalf of your charity, their listings are specially marked, calling attention to the listing. Your charity listings will include both our signature blue and yellow charity ribbon and a trust-inspiring “giving bar” that displays your logo and mission statement to all prospective buyers.

3. Socialize It!

Use your social media, email, website, and more to encourage supporters to buy items that support your organization. We even provide easy-to-use templates to all enrolled charities! Visit the Resources for Charitable Organizations for downloads and links.

Direct Seller Frequently Asked Questions

How can I add or remove a Direct Seller from our charity?

You will need to contact the administrator for the charity’s PayPal account who can log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add or remove Direct Sellers.

How can I tell if I’m set up correctly as a Direct Seller?

You can see if your eBay ID is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you are a charity administrator, you can view your Direct Sellers list by logging into the Direct Selling for Charity page.

Can I be a Direct Seller for multiple charities using the same account?

Yes! Just be sure that your account has been added to the direct seller list by asking the Charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity and adding your eBay ID as an authorized Direct Seller. When you list an item and choose to donate to a charity for which you are a Direct Seller, 100% of the sale will be deposited to the charity’s PayPal account.

If you choose to donate to a charity for which you are not set up as a Direct Seller then the proceeds from the sale will be deposited into your personal PayPal account and PayPal Giving Fund will automatically collect the funds from your account and deliver the donation to the Charity you selected.

When will the charity receive the donations from items sold by Direct Sellers?

As soon as the buyer pays for the item, the funds will be paid to the Charity’s PayPal account. This is one of the benefits of designating a Direct Seller rather than waiting for the normal seller donation collection and payout cycle which generally takes 3-6 weeks.

Why did PayPal Giving Fund collect the donation from our charity PayPal account?

This happens if the seller account is not properly set up as a Direct Seller for the charity. You can see if your eBay ID is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you don’t see the charity on this list, please ask your charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add your account as a Direct Seller. You don’t need to do anything else as the funds collected will be redistributed to your charity’s PayPal account in the next cycle.

I am a direct seller for a charity. Why am I receiving invoices to pay my donations?

Your seller account may not be set up correctly. You can see if your eBay ID is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you don’t see the charity on this list, please ask your charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add your account as a Direct Seller. Once your eBay ID has been added as a Direct Seller then the outstanding invoices will be automatically canceled.

Why was I charged fees even though I am set up as a Direct Seller?

Even though your account is set up as a Direct Seller, the option to “Donate a portion to charity” is not automatically selected. Remember to select this option as well as select your charity when listing any item.

Also, while direct sellers of charity items will not be charged Insertion or Final Value Fees, advanced listing upgrade fees such as reserve price or subtitle will still be charged. Learn more about selling fees.
