Can I be a Direct Seller for multiple charities using the same account?

You’ll be able to sell for one charity using your eBay account. If you are a Direct Seller for multiple charities, you’ll need to sign up and onboard with separate accounts.

When will the charity receive the donations from items sold by Direct Sellers?

Payouts are sent directly into the bank account set up for the charity. You can choose to schedule these daily as funds are available, or weekly. Regardless of how the buyer pays, payouts are consistently initiated Monday through Friday, within two (2) business days of order confirmation. Once a payout is initiated, funds will be available in your bank account within normal bank processing times, typically within 1–4 business days.

What is managed payments and how does it affect charity sellers?

Managed payments provide an enhanced buying and selling experience on eBay. It offers sellers one place to sell and get paid. For buyers, it provides more payment options like credit/ debit and gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and PayPal Credit. The payouts get deposited directly into your charity’s bank account. You will also be able to leverage customized reports to understand the sources of payouts from payment methods used on eBay. If you use third-party tools, there are no changes to how you use them. Those who integrate using eBay APIs can update their integrations to view payout information. See here for more information on managed payments.

If I’m a charity Direct Seller, what are my fees on eBay’s managed payments?

When you list and sell items on eBay, we charge selling fees. Once you’re activated on managed payments, we simply charge one final value fee when your item sells—and there are no third-party payment processing fees.

Once your nonprofit status is verified, you will pay a final value fee at the special charity rate, calculated as 2% of your total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order. (The total amount of the sale is the entire amount the buyer pays, including any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees). If you’ve been notified to register for managed payments, please click here to find more information on all applicable fees and how they are calculated.

Here’s an example of how managed payments may work for you, your specific situation will vary.

Example of eBay’s managed payment fees

Why did PayPal Giving Fund collect the donation from our charity PayPal account?

This can happen if your account is not set up as a Direct Seller for the charity. To check if your charity is registered as a Direct Seller on eBay go to donation.ebay.com and click on the “Settings” tab If you don’t see a Direct Seller notification on the “Settings” tab, then your account is not set up as a business account for the charity. To get set up appropriately,  you need to create an eBay business account and onboard as a charity following the steps listed above on this page.

I’m a Direct Seller for a charity. Why am I receiving invoices to pay donations?

Your seller account may not be set up correctly. This can happen if your account is not set up as a Direct Seller for the charity. You can onboard as a charity following the steps listed above on this page.

Why was I charged fees even though I’m set up as a Direct Seller?

Charities still benefit from eBay waiving standard listing fees. Charity sellers using managed payments will no longer pay PayPal fees. Instead, they’ll pay an updated final value fee at a special charity rate, with no third-party payment processing fees. Most charities’ fees should be lower overall than they were before.

Your final value fee at a special charity rate will be 2% of your total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order. You will not have to pay third-party payment processing fees. Most charities will now pay less than they were paying before.

Also, while Direct Sellers of charity items will not be charged insertion fees, advanced listing upgrade fees such as reserve price or subtitle will still be charged. Learn more about selling fees.
